The Xerox Amateur Radio Club (XARC) is comprised of Xerox employees, retirees, and friends, who have an interest in ham radio. XARC is located at the Xerox complex in Webster, NY (Monroe County FN13).
E-Bay
I had never bid for anything on E-Bay before, but I was browsing for a Hammarlund receiver and found a couple I was interested in. The prices at the time were reasonable, so I thought I would give it a shot. I bid on a HQ-110C and a HQ-170. The bid on the HQ-170 went fine, but every bid on the HQ-110 was immediately outbid. Someone had obviously had set a maximum bid that was not yet reached. I looked at the user name of the other bidder - WB6ACU. I recognized the call, a guy named Joe Walsh, a musician best known as a member of The Eagles.
Local Ham Maps
Maybe this is already well-known, but I just found it. It's a website that uses the FCC Callsign database along with Google Maps to create a map of ham radio operators, usually based on a zip code. Maybe the site is well known, but I think this use of Google Maps is fairly new, as it is listed as under development.
Anyway, the website is http://www.vanityhq.com/

K2AS
XARC Net?
With club meetings at a every-other-month interval, and a majority of club members retired or not located in the Webster area, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in holding an informal net on the months we have no meeting?
There are a couple of reasons why I think it a good idea:
W2XRX Email Addresses Available
Email addresses are available for XARC Members (must be dues paying members). The address would be of the form (user)@w2xrx.org. The user name does not necesarily need to be your website user name.
Server access and instructions are available. You can use Outlook Express, Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc. You can also access this account via the web. An address can be created and forwarded to another address if desired.
Fall 2007 Foxhunt Results
The Fall 2007 Foxhunt is history. Only four teams took part in this edition of our twice yearly event. The day was mostly cloudy with some occasionaly light rain, and some wind.
The hunt began at Culver-Ridge Plaza in Irondequoit at 9:30 AM. Teams got a bearing pretty quickly and were on their way to the general area of the fox pretty quickly. WO2P and N2KXS were the first to get to the park where the fox was located, and began tracking on foot. Two more teams were not far behind.
Welcome XARC Members
All XARC members should register here. It will allow you to have access to members only information, and will likely serve as our member database in the future as more capabilities are added. So please, if you haven't yet, click on Create new account. It only takes a minute.
XARC General Meeting
XARC Members,
The next club meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6:00 PM at the Club Station. We will be showing a video of the FT5XO 2005 DXpedition to Kerguelen Island. Kerguelen is in the South Indian Ocean midway between South Africa and Australia and is the furthest country from us, making it the ultimate DX.
This video tells the story of 11 hams who went there on a "microlight" expedition - no amps, no yagis, no internet links, little publicity, and lots and lots of CW.
Elecraft K3
As many of you know, I am a great enthusiastist of the Elecraft company and their products. I bought the K2 when it was announced and have enhanced over the years as the various add-ons became available. It has been a great experience.
Now they have released a new Transceiver - K3, which is available both as a modular kit and fully assembled. The K3 is a high performance DSP based radio. The specs compete with the very high end rigs, but start at less than $1400.
