XARC Repeater
The Xerox Amateur Radio Club sponsors a 2 meter repeater, callsign KE2MK, located on the top of Xerox Tower in downtown Rochester, NY. Its location on the highest skyscraper gives it excellent coverage of the greater Rochester, NY area. It is also useful for wider area coverage, with mobile users able to bring up the repeater from as far away as exits 43 through 48 on the New York State Thru Way. The surrounding geography favors coverage to the west, but the repeater can also be raised from high spots south and east of Rochester. Because Lake Ontario lies directly to the North, amateurs in southern Ontario, Canada and the Thousand Islands of New York can often access the repeater with an appropriate antenna. The repeater is open to all licensed amateurs. A subaudible CTSS (PL) tone of 110.9 Hz tone is currently encoded in the output. This enables listeners with decoding capability to avoid annoyance from IMD. Currently, encoding and decoding is NOT required by users. User encoding is a future possibility if annoying unidentified repeater activations becomes persistent.
The repeater does have autopatch capability, but access to it is limited by club by-laws to those with specified affiliations to Xerox and XARC. Also, there is a 220Mhz and 440Mhz repeater at the same location. Both are currently linked with the 2m repeater. Here are the frequencies: 224.260 output - 222.660 input 444.825 output - 449.825 input.
Donations for repair and maintenance of the repeater are welcomed in the form of a check to XARC and mailed to: Treasurer, Xerox Amateur Radio Club Bldg. 337, Mail Stop 15 S 800 Phillips Road Webster, NY 14580
