FAQ
What is Amateur Radio?
Best to read this article in Wikipedia - Amateur Radio.
Do I need to be a Xerox employee to become a member of the club?
The short answer is . . .No. We do not turn away people who want to be involved in the club. But not being a Xerox employee might limit your access to some of the club's assets. Our club station is on Xerox property, and you could only use it if escorted by a employee. Our repeater is open to everyone, but use of the autopatch is limited to employees. But these issues shouldn't hinder access to club meetings or events, or access to the web pages.
Do I need to have a FCC license to become a member?
No. All are welcome. We would hope we could help you get a license.
Do I need to learn Morse Code?
No. The Morse Code requirement has been eliminated.
Do you have regular meetings and programs?
Presently, our meeting schedule is undetermined. We are planning a monthly net and will have occasional meetings that will be announced in advance. We also may have some informal meetings from time to time that will also be announced here.
What are your dues?
$10 per year. This is mostly used for insurance of our equipment and occaisional equipment updates/upgrades.
What other activities does the club participate in?
We usually have two hiddentransmitter hunts per year (Foxhunts). We participate in Field Day, an Emergency Preparedness activity that is also a contest. Other activities are only limited by the members enthusiasm.
